Jamie’s Italian, London-Canary Wharf

After an awful run in the rain, me and my friend, Andreea from Dreaming of Chanel, decided to have lunch at Jamie’s Italian. I’ve always been a fan of his cooking shows, books and lifestyle. Had some bites one evening at Jamie’s in Notting Hill and was completely blown away by the perfect nachos with guacamole! Also, every single recipe I’ve cooked from Jamie Oliver’s books, turned out perfectly. So couldn’t wait to have some more. And boy, weve’ ordered seven dishes;)

As Andreea is the expert in Jamie’s menu, she recommended three appetizers. They were all perfect, I liked the most the black angel spaghetti with British scallops, garlic, chilli, anchovies, parsley, capers and squid ink pasta. They were simply amazing, the pasta was perfectly cooked, fresh scallops and the spicy sauce was amazing. We had next fried squid with garlicky mayo, lemon and chilli. Tender, juicy almost, you should order two or three portions, that’s how good they are. The last appetizer was the baked chestnut mushrooms with smoked mozzarella thyme and crisp music bread. Never had this kind of pie, I can’t wait to try it at home, with the condition I’ll find the amazing thin and crisp pastry.

After a lovely chat, we continued our late lunch with a chargrilled beef steak served with wild mushrooms & peppery endives. I recon, it wasn’t the best steak ever, but probably I was already full and couldn’t eat much. I loved the salad though, not much of an endives fan, but it was really great. Andreea had mixed grilled fish and seafood. I tasted some of the oyster, which was awful, but the shrimp was so juicy and full of flavor.

After almost four hours of eating and having fun, we ordered some desserts and cocktails. I had chocolate and wine Santo pot with hazelnut biscotti and zabaglione ice cream. The ice cream was amazing, the cream was too thick in my opinion, so couldn’t eat all, but a great dessert. Andreea had passion fruit sorbet, so refreshing and delicious!

All in all, we had a lovely day, great food, reasonable bill, friendly waiters and great atmosphere. We should do this again!
