Alverne Restaurant, Penzance

Spending a few hours in Penzance late August this year, has been a blast. The calm sea and the scenery were breathtaking. We were rushed in Alverne restaurant by the sudden rain and we couldn’t believe our luck. Initially, we had a different restaurant in mind, after a quick research online but it was full. This small restaurant offers a relaxed atmosphere, intimate and refreshing. The staff is welcoming, friendly and helpful.

We ordered mushroom soup for starters, velvety, delicious and full of flavor. I was full after finishing the big plate in a heartbeat but couldn’t wait to be surprised with the main course. And of course I wasn’t disappointed.

My husband had pork steak wrapped in bacon with potato puree and capers sauce. It looked just amazing and it was great, according to my husband. I couldn’t help to taste a bit from his plate and indeed my taste buds were satisfied.

I had monkfish tail with asparagus wrapped in bacon and rucola risotto. Never had this type of fish before and I really loved it. Tender but bold at the same time. With lots of flavors I can’t really describe, a feast for eyes, soul and body.

I am totally recommending this restaurant, we had such a nice evening with the best food.
