The hottest trend this season: meet the CAPE

on

The cold season is challenging, because it is quite difficult being stylish while also keep warm. The cape has seen a comeback every decade, but has been around for millenniums. This season though, we’ve seen it everywhere: Chanel, Dior, Chloe DKNY, and all the major designers have adopted this style, because it is alluring, mysterious and a fashionable coat alternative. It is quite tricky though to look like a trend setter, and not like you’ve just borrowed your grandma’s cape, thus the high street shops and designers alike have fantastic options, following the current trends and styles. The cape has been a favourite among fashionistas this fall, because it is one chic piece that can literally transform a casual look into something really flattering and sought after. From ultra-cosy to the cool embroidered boho versions, the investment potential here is immense.

Gloverall has been playing a part in fashion & culture throughout the last 60 years, and it is the archetypal luxury British Designer brand for men and women coats, including capes. I absolutely love my new tartan lining duffle cape in navy from Gloverall, since it channels a traditional British aesthetic with the striking Royal Stewart lining. The quality is exceptional, made from a soft, warm and durable wool blend, featuring full-length batwing sleeves, lined hood pop button and toggle fastening, it can be dressed up and down. At first I thought about styling it with a pair of riding boots, skinny jeans and a hunting rifle, which would look incredible, but then again, I wanted to step up the game a bit and prove you can look stylish wearing a sportier cape to an elegant outfit.

Layering the cape over a plain white shirt, and navy gingham suit pants, and accessorized with nude stilettos and a structural bag from Paul’s Boutique, will add instant cool points to your classic look. The possibilities are endless, you can style your cape over a breton tee with jeans and trainers, or layer it over a light denim jacket for colder months. If you have any intentions of following the trends this season, you will invest in a cape because it is a grand-enough gesture that will save your outfits from looking dull this winter. Also, it will refine your outfits successfully.
