The British icons in fashion

Five years of living in London and paying attention to the wonders of fashionistas around me, taught me a thing or two about the British style. We all want to look like Suki Waterhouse, Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne, don’t we? It might be harder than it looks, because that effortless chic androgyny look takes a while to be mastered, take it from a woman who had her fair share of girlishness in her life. So how do we adopt the Brit style?

First of all, smarten up any casual outfits, such as adding a menswear coat over a pair of mom-jeans and a simple top. Boden is synonym with British heritage, so their Spitalfields checked mohair blend coat is a dream! A famous Dickensian character inspired this artful, over-sized coat, while the on-trend, belted shape means it’s as ‘right now’ as can be. The luxurious modern mohair comes from a British mill that dates back to the 1900s. The fusion of old-meets-new is at the heart of this investment piece – in rich scarlet or a scaled-up heritage check. If the French have the Breton stripe, the British have cheery tartan, thanks to their Scottish brethren. Instantly add some colour with blue and caramel tones.

The next step is to embrace urban sportswear, but without looking like going to the gym. Do a slouchy camel turtleneck, cropped suit pants and Gola white trainers. You can wear Chelsea boots, another bastion of British style if you want to change directions to a more casual chic look.

Everyone in the UK is well versed in mixing practical bits, and the on-trend backpack is key. Paul’s Boutique has an amazing and affordable range of cute little backpacks, versatile and pretty! Accessories has to be at a minimum; you’re not in Ibiza, are you?

So here you have it, a small list of how to style your outfit the British way!
