Miraggio Thermal Spa Resort – Halkidiki, Greece

Greece has a mysterious appeal to everyone who worships the sun, the food, the sea. I might be speaking for more than half the planet, but I do believe Greece has a power of transforming your soul, of healing your spirit and improving your stamina. We’ve visited Halkidiki middle of September, and I was a bit afraid the weather will not be as generous, but I was so wrong. A few years back, we went to Athens in July and the 40 degrees average were too much to handle. September is the best option to book your holiday if you want to enjoy exploring while being able to breathe and still get an amazing tan. Actually, the entire end of year is perfect to book a holiday in Greece, especially if your destination has a lot to offer. We stayed at Miraggio Thermal Spa Resort and I will be going back, no matter the season, because honestly, it was one of the best holidays we’ve had in a long time. I couldn’t really imagine myself staying in one location for 4 days, without going out and visit the surrounding areas, but the resort has so many activities to keep you occupied, that you won’t be needing to do much travelling. Unless you spend more than a week here, in which case there are a few wonderful villages to discover, as I’ve been told.

The Resort has only been opened for 2 years, so everything is new, opulent, luxurious, and the architecture is quite unique. The Green Eden is built amphitheatrically at the tip of the Kassandra peninsula. It breaths among infinite waters, graceful gardens, overlooking the Aegean Sea. This seafront enclave of well being and countless amenities descends on a lovely hill slope across 330 acre at one of the most raw areas in North Greece.

The Miraggio Resort pays tribute to its surrounding nature by being founded upon green forethought and eco-principles that reflect in the whole site. The resort is a dream destination, an oasis of luxury, meant to be discovered.

The rooms are large, flooded with natural light and really quiet for a capacity of 300 rooms & suits. Most of the rooms are overlooking the Aegean Sea, and 48 rooms have their own private swimming pool. The beds are really comfortable and spacious enough, while the linen, classy materials and high-end technology speak about the tribute to good life. One aspect I really want to mention is the impeccable service. With so many rooms to look after, I have no idea how on earth the cleaning ladies were every time at our disposal, cleaning our room several times per day, providing fresh towels and water. I had to nickname them ‘the ninja ladies’ for speed and efficiency. Best room service ever!

WHERE TO EAT

The resort has 4 restaurants and 6 bars, all excellent with an array of cuisines. We had breakfast at Kritamo, and it was incredible. Such an amazing variety of dishes, from milk with cereals, pastries, to many kinds of meats, cheese, and fish, as well as a chef cooking fresh eggs. There is also a healthy corner for the more responsible people. I had a hard time deciding what to have for breakfast, but every morning I was piling up on smoked mackerel, as it was absolutely delicious! Even Emma loved it, although she is not fussy when it comes to food. We’ve dined at the same restaurant a few times, buffet style and the options were impressive. A lot of seafood as per my heart’s desire, but hubby was happy too with the variety of steaks and veggies. With handpicked local ingredients, the kitchen venues will indulge your cosmopolitan spirit in no time.  For a special dinner I would definitely recommend Portofino. You can enjoy a gourmet journey along the picturesque Italian Riviera. We’ve discovered the colorful and creative side of the Mediterranean gastronomy with exquisite authentic flavours. Order scallops in green peas puree for appetizers and the variety of Italian cold cuts and cheese platter. We’ve returned here another evening when Emma was finally asleep, and I had Seafood spaghetti, overlooking the sea and enjoying the sunset. It was magical! Make sure to order the Greek wines, they are delicious.

There is also Toroneo, the seafood restaurant right next to the sea waves. We’ve booked a special dinner here one evening, but we had to go back to Portofino because it was so windy, the plates would’ve ended up in the water. I was really looking forward to enjoying the tasty specialities, so I’ll have this as an incentive to return. Well, the entire resort is wonderful, worth visiting every year!At Miraggio Thermal Spa Resort you can enjoy food and drinks by the pool as well, at the Oasis pool restaurant or at any of the other bars in the hotel. The developers really considered this aspect important for a perfect holiday. Just sit back, admire the sunset  appreciating every sip of life flowing from your glass.

BY THE POOL AND BY THE SEA

One of the main activities we loved while staying at Miraggio, was relaxing by the pool. There are 3 pools, including a small kids pool and an adult only pool, framed by palm trees. The main pool is really big, with a bridge leading to an island. The design is amazing, with small flower beds, a shading area for those midday hours, as well as stylish white parasols protecting from the heat of the day.

The beach is lined with loungers and parasols, so you get the comfort of the pool, or the real experience of the white sand and beach waves, overlooking the Aegean Sea capped with the hazy hilltops of a distant peninsula. Needless to say we experienced both, Emma really loved playing in the sand and in the pool equally.

WHAT TO DO

The pools, the beach and the general relaxation can keep you busy, but there are an array of activities designed especially for the guests. You can charter a yacht from Miraggio Marina for a scuba diving adventure, or you can enjoy archery, football, aqua-gym, table tennis, beach volleyball, dance, boules, yoga, Zumba, tennis. You can also borrow a mountain bike and cycle off into the pine forests nearby.

Families are well looked after at Miraggio Thermal Spa, with the four indoor and outdoor clubs designed for different age groups where kids can have a lot of fun, while parents can breath a little. There is a crèche too for babies!

At the core of the resort is the thermal spa, which is fed by a subterranean hot spring. If you’re into all the wellness programmes the resort has to offer, you’ve hit the jackpot. I honestly haven’t seen a more beautiful spa, naturally lit, luxurious, with top of the art décor and treatment rooms. The facility offers thalassotherapy pools, Finish sauna, tepidarium, floating sauna and cold plunge walking path. I’ve had a face massage on one of the days, really invigorating!

Staying at Miraggio Thermal Spa in Greece would be the holiday you’ve always wanted. The luxurious facilities, the delicious food, the breathtaking views make it the place to relax during the day and as the sun goes down, to enjoy a cocktail at the terrace surrounded by live jazz. The resort is a piece of heaven and you deserve a holiday like this.
