Ladies Day at Aintree Grand National

on
April 12, 2017

I’ve finally attended the races at Aintree Grand National in Liverpool this Friday. Hearing a lot about Ladies Day made me put a mark on my calendar, get the tickets and convince my husband to become my plus one. I am quite new to the whole race experience, but ever since I moved to England 6 years ago, I’ve wanted to be more involved in this cultural phenomenon all Brits are proud of.

The Grand National is unique, receiving a lot of international attention, and it has come a long way since 1839 when it was first inaugurated. Victory in the Grand National has been the pinnacle of ambition for owners, trainers, and jockeys. It is the most famous chase in the world and one of the biggest tests for racehorse and rider who have to complete two circuits of the iconic Grand National course.  Prize money of £1 million is on offer for those who compete in the 170th running of the Grand National at Aintree in 2017, with the rewards stretching down to the 10th home for the fourth time. It is by far the highest amount of money that any chase outside Japan can boast. For this prize, I would want to learn one thing or two about the races!

The Grand National is a national treasure, both enthralling and fascinating, and not to be missed. It is also a scene of showcasing the most elegant dresses, fascinators, and suits I have ever seen. Did you miss London Fashion Week? Attending the Ladies Day is better! I can never skip an occasion of dressing up, especially in the middle of the day. Going all out with the most fancier hat and dress in my wardrobe and not feeling different, but integrated into the atmosphere, is something hard to achieve in London. I had to go all the way to Liverpool to feel at home. An array of well-dressed ladies and gents, all competing for the prize of the day. Aintree Racecourse is not only about the races but about fashion too.

We started the day by watching a few races and getting into the rush of the moment with all the bettors around us (Go jockey number 3!). Ladies Day brings a touch of elegance to The Randox Health Grand National Festival, providing an opportunity for racegoers to compete in the style stakes alongside top class racing action on the iconic Aintree course. This is why I have decided to step up the game and wear my most comfortable yet elegant floral jumpsuit from Monsoon, completed with a really elegant blush fascinator and gold accessories from the same brand. I have actually done a blog post about race inspired outfits, so make sure to check that one too if you’re in need of some ideas. The year is long and there are many races on the calendar to prepare for. But make sure to mark Ladies Day for next year and make a statement!

The best way to enjoy the races is with your friends and family. We saw a lot of bridal parties, couples, friends, so I got to attend the Ladies Day not only with my husband, who really enjoyed the atmosphere but with one of my best blogger friends, Teral. We admired the outfit choices of everyone in our section, commenting here and there, and then we started enjoying the game as it unfolded behind our eyes, over a glass of prosecco. There is something about the races that speaks royal, noble, and it comes naturally to sit upright, walk with a certain amount of confidence, smile to strangers because you share the same passion, at least for one day.

Why should you attend Ladies Day? The excitement, fashion culture, races insights, will make that day the one time that you get together for a truly memorable celebration. Why not get yourself ready for winning the Aintree’s most impressive fashionista award, or simply enjoy yourself and your party of friends to one of the most stylish racecourse in England.
