Interview with Lidart Boutique – beautiful Christmas handcrafting
Christmas is definitely my favourite season of all. There is something magical in the early preparations, people seem much more happy giving, and the sparkier the better. When it comes to finding the perfect gift, or the perfect decoration, things get difficult. We keep searching in shops, online, until we find the One item that will become part of our festive holidays. My sister-in-law, Lidia, is one of the most creative persons I’ve ever met. She has so much patience and imagination, but she is also very picky. She’s been creating a lot of beautiful crafts over the years, but it was just a few months back when she started looking for unique Christmas decorations. She couldn’t find anything that spoke to her, so she decided to create her own. Long story short, she became so good at it, that she opened an Etsy shop, dedicated to people who want to be different, who look for something beautiful to offer to their loved ones, or simply want to decorate their Christmas tree and home with one of a kind handmade pieces. She also makes dedicated pieces for weddings, special occasions, so if you have any requests, she is the person to do it. I sat down with her in the weekend, and she told me more about her journey so far, in the crafting world.
[custom_heading center=”true”]How did your handmade passion start?[/custom_heading]
I’ve always been an art aficionado, and always taking drawing and crafting seriously in school. Gifting my friends and family was the best way to exercise my talents, and for better than a decade I preferred to work for hours on a beautiful handmade craft and give it on someone’s birthday, as a token of my love. Crayon portraits, hearts made out of potpourris, quilling boxes, and so many beautiful gifts, out of my heart.

Everything around me, I breath and dream handcrafting. Either I’m out shopping, or I am watching a movie, ideas keep appearing out of nowhere. When I am at Hobby Craft and I see a piece of material, I immediately think of possible ways to use it in my work. Things such as recycling objects drive my mind to make links with the final product I already envision. I also try to stay connected with all the new techniques that appear in this field, and they are so many, thankfully!
[custom_heading center=”true”]When did you think it’s time to transform everything into a business?[/custom_heading]
After I’ve done lots of boxes, and frames for my friends, 3 years ago, I kept receiving positive feedback and encouragements to use my talent for others too. That was when I started believing in myself and opened a Facebook page. After an exciting while, I left it aside, because something was missing. Now when I think about it, I wasn’t confident enough, consequent upon it and determined. I was on a stage where the idea was growing, but it wasn’t enough. I was afraid of too much work and lost time, if the result wouldn’t have been a success.
[custom_heading center=”true”]What made you pick up where you left off and open an Etsy shop?[/custom_heading]
After I’ve moved to England, one year ago, I have discovered handmade items had an impressive cult following here. I have decided to invest in this idea and make it real, thus opening an Etsy shop, since the online commerce has grown significantly in the past few years. Also, in England I can find a lot of supplies, within reasonable prices, and as long as I have them, creative ideas keep flooding!

When I first started making my Christmas pieces, a couple of months ago, I was thinking about unique ideas of decorating our home for the winter holidays, and everything fell into place. Christmas is my favourite season and it felt just right to devote my time creating beautiful baubles, wreaths, and so much more. I believe the market is abundantly filled with lots of Christmas decorations, and it is difficult coming up with something new, but I felt I had to try and show everyone Christmas through my eyes.

First of all, I am in love with everything I am creating, and my pieces are made with care, love and hard work. I’ve actually looked on Etsy for similar items as mine, but I couldn’t find any, thus if you want to buy something that will differentiate you from the rest, or you want to gift your loved one a precious item, then my shop is the perfect place you can find whatever you are looking for. I am thrilled about my results, no matter the time invested. And the happy faces of people getting to know my work is why I got into this business after all.

I am having so many ideas for the upcoming holidays, so expect beautiful handcrafting for Valentines, Easter, wedding decorations, etc. I also work on demand, so if you have an idea and want to see it come to life, or you want a personalised item, I am the right person to help you.
